Your Inner Junkie Doesn’t Want You to Know This
The strongest, fiercest, most “I’d gnaw my own leg off for a cigarette!” crave in the world will stop, all by itself, whether you feed it or not.
Don’t believe me?
Picture yourself in the hospital for an extended stay; you can’t smoke, and the cravings are intense, especially the first day: you start to think you really would gnaw your own leg off for a cigarette. But the thing is, you can’t smoke; it’s not allowed.
For a while, you fight the craves, then you just let them roll over you. And if you’re observant, you notice something: it isn’t one constant crave, it’s a series of them, and they all go away, all by themselves, whether you resist them or not, and more importantly, despite the fact that you can’t feed them.
And if you’re really observant, you’ll notice something else: they get weaker and happen less often the longer you go without a cigarette…
Why do we think craves behave any differently when we start consciously choosing not to feed them?
