About Kevin

I smoked for 35 years, off and on (mostly on); I started as a child of 10 and kept at it until it finally paid off: I was diagnosed with an advanced case of emphysema at the age of 45.

Not only did the emphysema end my career as a professional trombonist, my doctor assured me it would kill me (and in a particularly gruesome way) unless I quit smoking right away and stayed quit for good.

That was my wake-up call, and it started me on the road that leads to here.

I quit smoking for the final time on November 19, 2001, and have been a student of the quit ever since: I’ve studied thousands of quitters in that time; how they quit, why they quit, what works and what doesn’t, and have discovered some interesting things about the process that I’m going to be sharing with you.

On my first anniversary of freedom from smoking, I launched woofmang.com (a site where I would chronicle my personal journey for the first year and beyond). Later, I added a support forum to the site (quit-smoking-support.woofmang.com) where people who wanted to quit, or were in the process of quitting, or had quit, could help and support each other.

I launched this site on the 6th anniversary of taking back my freedom from my addiction to nicotine.
